Mom discovered the life of an American teenager during World War II



Exiled from China, Mom and Grandma spent the War in California.

Mom spent most of her high school years in California. She went on her first date at age 13, and 11 months later was given her first pin from a boyfriend. At St. Anthony's High School, she became a cheerleader, wearing a uniform of purple and white. When her family moved back to Shanghai, China in 1946 she became a cheerleader for the Army-Navy Games. She attended many social affairs at the American Club and the Columbia Country Club in Shanghai from 1946 to 1947.
